Carbon pricing will be an integral part of international and national climate policies. While they will not be sufficient to mitigate climate change on their own, these strategies can be leveraged across different scales to maximize their utilities. In this paper written for GEOG 3180: Global Climate Change, I explain the economic fundamentals of the two pricing mechanisms, consider their efficacy, and examine how they can be applied to most efficiently address emissions reduction.
